Introducing Fairview Heights Chiropractor Dr. Kathleen Roche
"Simply put, I was a skeptic. I had worked and been in a legal environment with a medical model of healthcare; then I hurt my back playing tennis, it was the worst pain of my life. The doctors injected me with steroids for pain, and if that did not work, they wanted to do surgery. I had a herniated disc in my low back, where a fragment had lodged into my sciatic nerve. I had never been to a chiropractor, but my husband had and it helped him. I gave it a try and at first I was sore, but over time the pain went away and I have not had any relapse since I started care. I decided that chiropractic healthcare was the field for me; since I have never liked blood or needles. I looked into chiropractic, switched careers and have never looked back.
I have always practiced a chiropractic approach to healthcare and was not even aware of it until my episode with my back. The adjustments do not require needles or invasive treatment. The atmosphere of the chiropractic office was friendly, along with the doctor. No drugs were offered, but nutrition and natural supplements were discussed. It was pleasant, even though I was in pain. I decided I wanted to be in a profession where I could help other people that are in pain without injections, drugs or surgery.
I attended Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri. I was surprised about the amount and level of classes which I had to take. The program was very challenging, but I did finish in the top ten percent of my class. I was on the Dean's list 8 out of 10 semesters, and I was a Who's Who for college students. Since completing Logan and obtaining my Doctor of Chiropractic, I have completed graduate training in scoliosis and whiplash. I am a contributing author in a book on neck pain. I have participated in a study using before and after x-rays of patients with neck pain, comparing accident and non-accident victims for the Spine Research Institute of San Diego .
I love my job. I love going to work and changing people's lives. I treat patients of all ages, from infants to seniors. Many of my patients have tried other forms of healthcare and have had only limited amounts of success. I receive many of my patients from their medical doctors. I have a great success with headaches, neck/shoulder pain, and all forms of back pain. It is so great to have a patient come in, like I was, full of skepticism and leave a happier, healthier, pain free, more active person.
When I am not in the office, I enjoy cooking, playing golf, reading, and being around the water. I love spending time with my children, Melissa and Joe, and my husband Kevin. The majority of my family lives in Indiana, while my husband 's family lives in the Belleville area. I enjoy life and all it has to offer.
I do not take any prescription medication or over the counter medicine. I believe that medicine is necessary for many people and many illnesses. My approach to health is wellness and prevention. It is easier to stay healthy and pain-free, then to try to correct or cure illness or unhealthy habits. I believe and practice good nutrition, weight management, exercise, proper posture and good sleeping habits. I get adjusted so my spine maintains proper correction. I still enjoy life and have fun even while being good to my body. I once heard that " you only have one body, once you break it down or destroy it, you go with it." So take care of yourself - if not for you then for your loved ones.
"Enough about me! Quit living in pain. Come see what Chiropractic can do for you and your family."
